The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has condemned the killing of 12 soldiers in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
The NSGF, in a statement by its chairman and governor of Plateau state, Mr. Simon Lalong, said the incident was unfortunate and must not be allowed to repeat itself as it is capable of demoralising security personnel from giving their best in fight criminals in the country.
The governors expressed sympathy with the families of the slain soldiers and the Nigerian Army over the unfortunate incident.
The soldiers were ambushed on April 5, 2021, while on a routine operational task to Bonta village in Benue State.
The statement urged the Nigerian military not to be discouraged by the act, but should continue to carry out its legitimate duty of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and assisting in maintaining internal security, especially at this time when the nation is confronted with many criminal activities.
The governors assured of its continuous support to the Armed Forces and other security services in general. The statement however appealed to the Army to remain professional and exercise caution and restraint in the quest to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The forum called on the citizens to assist the security forces with useful information that will lead to the arrest of those behind the killing of the soldiers.
