Dikyet Gupiya, the district head of Pushit, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state, has been abducted by gunmen. Gupyet was reportedly abducted at his residence on on Thursday at about 9:15pm. The traditional ruler is said to be a close relative of the state deputy governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden who is also from Pushit. According to Joshua Dazyem, a resident of Pushit, the district head was abducted at about 9:15pm on Thursday night at his palace.
He said, the gunmen numbering about 10, and armed with rifles and other weapons invaded the palace and took him with them. Dazyem said the kidnappers were yet to get in touch with the palace or relations of the district head since his abduction.
Spokesman of the Plateau state police command, Gabriel Uba, confirmed the incident when contacted.
“We are aware that a third class chief was kidnapped somewhere in Mangu. Our tactical team has been deployed to the area, for possible rescue.
“We are working with local vigilantes and others to ensure his safe return”, he said.
The latest incident occurred after similar abductions two months ago of the paramount rulers (also in Mangu LGA), the Sum Pyem, Gindiri, Dr. Charles Mato and the district head of Vom in Jos South LGA, Da Gyang Balat.
