Alia wins Benue APC guber ticket after re-run primary election

Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has emerged winner of the rerun governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state.
The rerun primary was conducted in 137 wards in 12 of the 23 Local Government Areas of the state following an appeal court judgement, challenging the election of the catholic priest in the primary elections held in May 2022.
The appeal court in Markudi, the Benue state capital, had while delivering judgement in the suit filed by one of the governorship aspirants, Prof. Terhemba Shija, ordered that fresh primary election be conduct in 137 wards in 12 LGAs.
Announcing the results of the election which held on Thursday, Chairman of the APC Election Committee, Senator Basheer Lado, said Alia polled 410,682 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sam Ode, who scored 22,319 votes.
“With this document before me, I hereby declare Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia who scored a total number of 410,682 votes; having scored the highest number of votes as the winner of this election”, Lado said.
