Son of the late Chadian President Idriss Deby, Mahamat Deby, a 37 year old army general has been appointed to succeed his father.
He was appointed to lead a military council set up after his father was killed by rebel forces.
Deby was confirmed dead on Tuesday following injuries sustained in a fight with the rebels over at the weekend.The army had established a transitional military council headed by Mahamat following his father’s death.
A two-week national mourning period was declared amid a dusk-to-dawn curfew, while all land and air borders in the country have also been shut until further notice.
A statement published on the Presidential website said the transitional period would last for 18 months while the cabinet and the parliament would be dissolved.
