Plateau government asks public officers nursing 2023 ambition to resign

The Plateau state government has directed all public officers wishing to contest the 2023 general elections to resign their appointments on or before February 28, 2022.
A memo dated January 31, 2022, published on Sunday on the Facebook page of the Plateau State Governor’s Directorate of Press Facebook, said the directive was aimed at providing a level playing ground for all political actors ahead of the elections.
The memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Danladi Atu, said all public officers nursing ambition to contest in the general elections should “honorably resign their appointments on or before 28th February, 2022”.
The memo titled: Resignation of all political office holders wishing to contest the forth coming political elections reads”, reads:
“As the countdown to 2023 general elections draws nearer and in the face of the heightened political activities, it has become necessary for government to provide a level playing ground for all political actors, especially those in Government to exercise their fundamental human rights.
“Consequently, I am to bring to the notice of all public officers occupying Public Offices under this administration that those interested and nursing political ambition to contest in the forth coming 2023 general elections to please honorably resign their appointments on or before 28th February, 2022.
“The essence is to reduce to the barest minimum, political distractions in governance and enable such concerned Public Officers to focus on their aspirations.
“While wishing you success in your future endeavours, please accept the assurances and high regards of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, please.”
