Diket Gupiya, the district head of Pushit, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state who was abducted by gunmen a week ago has been freed by his captors.
He was said to have been released on Friday night after spending one week in captivity.
The traditional ruler who is said to be a close relative of the Plateau state Deputy Governor, Sonni Tyoden, was abducted at about 9:15pm in his palace in Pushit on February 24, 2022.
Jeremiah Godiya, a resident of Pushit confirmed the release of the traditional ruler, saying the residents of the community had been celebrating his release.
“We have been jubilating since last night since we received news of the release of our traditional ruler”, he said.
