Buhari appoints acting IGP

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Usman Alkali Baba as the acting Inspector-General of Police.
The Minister of Police Affairs,
Alhaji Muhammed Dingyadi, disclosed this at a briefing with State House Correspondents on Tuesday at the Presidential villa, Abuja.
Until his appointment, Baba was the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Born on March 1, 1963, in Geidam, Yobe state, Baba enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on March 15, 1988.
He is a holder of Teacher’s Grade II Certificate (TC II) from Government Teachers College, Potiskum, Yobe state.
He also holds bachelor’s degree in political science from Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and a masters in public administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state.
President Buhari had on February 4, 2021, extended the tenure of the outgoing IGP, Mohammed Adamu Adamu for three months, after clocking the mandatory 35 years in service on February 1, 2021.
The tenure extension had attracted widespread criticism and lawsuit filed by
Maxwell Opara, a legal practitioner.
