Two more suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with Tuesday’s attempted kidnapping incident along Little Rayfield Road, Jos.
Two police officers were killed during the incident and their rifles taken away by the kidnappers.
The two suspects, according to a statement on Friday by the spokesperson of the Plateau state police command, Alabo Alfred, are Abubakar Mohammed and Ahmed Musa. The statement said the suspects were apprehended with the AK-47 rifle taken from the two police officers who were killed in the gun duel.
According to him, the police also recovered 75 additional rounds of live ammunition from the suspects, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the incident to six.
The statement reads: “Following the case of attempted kidnapping at Little Rayfield Road, Jos where two (2) of our officers were killed by suspected kidnappers in a gun battle and one AK-47 rifle carted away by the attackers, two (2) suspects, in addition to the four previously arrested in connection with the incident, are in our net.
“The suspects, namely, Abubakar Mohammed and Ahmed Musa (both males) were arrested with the AK-47 rifle that was criminally taken from the slain officers. We also recovered an additional 75 rounds of live ammunition.”
Alfred said the Police Command had intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more arms and ammunition.
“We are doing everything necessary to get rid of criminals and maximize peace and security in the state,” he said.
The statement urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and encouraged them to call the Plateau State Police Control Room/Emergency numbers or the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) GSM numbers in case of an emergency.
