Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated attacks launched by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on multiple military formations across Borno and Yobe states.
The Defence Headquarters, said in a statement on Thursday that the insurgents staged simultaneous assaults on military bases in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko between midnight and 4 a.m. on Thursday. The statement issued by the Media Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the troops fought gallantly and professionally, overcoming the assaults and inflicting heavy and decisive losses on the terrorists.
Uba said more than 50 insurgents were neutralised during the engagements, while several others sustained gunshot wounds and fled the scenes.
The statement added that the troops also recovered a significant cache of weapons, including 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, several hand grenades, and thousands of assorted rounds of ammunition.
He explained that the support from the air component of OPHK provided cover for ground forces through precision strikes guided by intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets.
Although a number of soldiers sustained injuries in the encounters, the statement said they were in stable condition and receiving medical attention.
He, however, said some structures and vehicles were destroyed following drone and RPG attacks by the insurgents, particularly in Dikwa and Mafa.
The statement said the military high command commended the gallantry and resilience of the troops, stressing that their
performance reaffirms the Armed Forces’ resolve and capacity to defend the nation’s territorial integrity.
