Troops arrest mastermind of  terrorist attack on Taraba community

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested Hassan Ibrahim, a notorious bandit terrorising communities in Taraba state.
Ibrahim, popularly known as Godu, was arrested in  Bali Local Government Area of the state during a joint operation  by troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, (OPWS).
The 39 year old terrorist was said to have been responsible for the  June 16, 2024, deadly attack on Mararaban Azagawa village  Bali LGA , leading to the death of several persons.
Lt. Oni Olubodunde,  Acting Assistant Director, Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army who confirmed Ibrahim’s arrest in a statement on Thursday in Jalingo, said the accused has confessed to his crime and is  providing useful information.
“In a successful operation conducted by the troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, (OPWS) a terrorist mastermind responsible for a deadly attack on Mararaban Azagawa village has been captured.
“The troops acted swiftly following the attack on 16 June 2024, which resulted in the tragic loss of five lives and numerous  injuries,” the army spokesperson said.
He said  “troops of 20 Model Battalion Sub-Sector 3A OPWS, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Bali Local Government Area, launched a special operation to apprehend  those behind the attack.
“Based on credible intelligence, the troops were able to arrest the ringleader, Hassan Ibrahim, also known as Godu, 39 years old. “During the arrest, items such as a Dane Gun, cartridges, and a motorcycle belonging to one of the victims were recovered from him.”
The statement added that Ibrahim has admitted his involvement in the heinous act and has provided valuable information, and is cooperating with authorities to help capture his collaborators.
The statement said, “Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa,  commander of 6 Brigade Sector 3 OPWS,  commended members of the public for providing useful information that led  to the capture of the suspect and called for continues support to security agencies in the efforts to eliminate criminal elements in Taraba State.
Uwa said, “The successful capture of the terrorist mastermind is a significant achievement for the troops and a step towards restoring peace and security in the affected community.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to protecting the lives and property of the citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of Taraba state.
