Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna central senatorial zone, has warned President Bola Tinubu, against inviting Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna to his government.
Featuring on the Programme “Democracy Today” on Channels Television on Friday, Sani, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said Tinubu is inviting trouble and danger to himself by bringing El-Rufai to serve in his administration.
“I don’t know why he (Tinubu) should bring El-Rufai in this government! I will make a prophecy of what is going to happen with El-Rufai in this government in the next few years,” he said.
“First of all if you are nominating El-Rufai on the basis of integrity and transparency and you say you will not appoint former Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje because of issues of allegations, El-Rufai also has an allegation against him because there is an outstanding issue of N32 billion federal government property against him which is in court.
“Anybody can Google it and see. It is his being governor in 2015 that stopped the continuation of that trial.
“That issue is there before justice Nyako of the Federal high court”, he said.
Speaking further, Sani said, “this government runs under Muslim- Muslim ticket and it is doing everything possible to please the Christian population in the country that the government is not theocratic, is not about islamasation, is not about any religious agenda…
“But here you are, employing a man who has by his records, by his antecedents, by his conduct and utterances has appeared to be one of the most intolerant Nigerian in the history of this country.
“A video had been in circulation where this person had made statements on religious agenda in this country and by that he has irritated, irked and triggered national conversation as far as this issue of government is concerned.
“But now you are bringing close to him. But for all I know, there are many people who supported and worked for “Tinubu and he is known to be selecting the best. So it was expected that the list of ministers he is going to present to the country, taking cognisant of the time this has lasted.”
Sani maintained: “The appointments are not a break from the past because El-Rufai served as a minister under the Obasanjo administration and he also served as governor.
“Obasanjo and Tinubu are two different people and there were many things that happened under Obasanjo regime which I believe that Tinubu is simply inviting trouble and danger to himself by inviting El-Rufai to his government.
“First all, El-Rufai in Tinubu government, I know there three things will happen.
“He will plot against Shettima and he is going to plan the seat of discord between president Tinubu and Shettima.
“He has a track record of doing it. He did that between Atiku and Obasanjo.
“Secondly, will not limit himself to the ministry he is assigned. He will meddle in every ministry.
“When he was FCT minister, he fought Kema Chikwe who was aviation minister, he fought Adamu Bello who was agric minister, he fought Yayale who was SFG.
“He set Obasanjo against the National Assembly… A leopard never changes its spots. He is still the same person.
“If a man who is over 60 and can make religious utterances that have the capacity to burning and tearing this country apart, what do you expect from him.
