Supreme court to hear 21 governorship appeals this week

The Supreme Court is to hear 21 governorship appeals arising from disputes from the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election.
The apex court, in its schedule, listed appeals for Ebonyi and Benue to be heard today (Monday) by a five-member panel of justices led by John Okoro.
According to the schedule, six appeals including Plateau and Delta states will be heard on Tuesday.
The PDP in Plateau, its candidate Caleb Muftwang, and INEC have filed three appeals regarding Plateau state.
In Delta, Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP) have filed three appeals regarding the governorship election in the state.
On Wednesday, the court listed for hearing four appeals — two regarding Adamawa state filed by the candidate of the SDP, and a counter-appeal by Ahmadu Fintiri, the state governor.
The other two appeals were filed by Okechukwu Ahiwe of the PDP and Ikechi Emenike of the APC on the Abia state governorship poll.
The apex court will on Thursday, hear two appeals concerning Ogun state, filed by PDP’s Oladipo Adebutu and a counter appeal by the APC’s Adedapo Abiodun, governor of the state.
The court would also hear one appeal by PDP’s Sandy Onor challenging Cross River governorship poll and two concerning Akwa Ibom state, filed by YPP’s Akpan Udofia and NPP’s John Akpan Udoedehe.
On Friday, the apex court may deliver judgments in the governorship appeals on Kano, Lagos.
In today’s sitting, the court affirmed the election of Hyacinth Alia as the governor of Benue state.
