Senator awards scholarship to five victims of 2021 Kaduna Baptist School abduction

Sunday Katung, the senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District has offered scholarship to five of the students of Bethel Baptist High School who were abducted in 2021.
Katung announced this during a fund raising programme organised by the Kaduna Baptist Conference for the rebuilding of the school.  He promised to pay the tuition fees of the five students up to university, through his foundation- the Sunday Marshall Education Foundation.
“From today, my education Foundation will take full responsibility of their education from now up to the university level,” Katung announced.
It was learnt that other victims of the of the unfortunate incident had graduated from the school, except the five.
On July 5, 2021, bandits in their hundreds, invaded the school, located about 6 kilometers from Kaduna metropolis and abducted 121 students.
The students were later released by the bandits batches and collected millions of naira as ransom on each batch.
The last of the students was kept in captivity until his escape on November 4, 2023.
The school was temporarily relocated to the Kaduna metropolis due to the security challenges at the time.
