Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state has inaugurated some projects as part of activities marking his 100 days in office.
On Friday, the governor inaugurated block of hostels at Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Kawo-Kaduna and the Zaria Metropolitan Authority Office Complex.
Speaking on Friday while inaugurating the hostels at GGSS Kawo, Sani said the rehabilitation of the hostels which were gutted by fire in 2020 is a fulfillment of the promised made by the state government and a demonstration of the importance it attaches to girl child education.
At the inauguration of the Zaria Metropolitan Authority Office Complex, the governor said the Authority has since inception, performed its role creditably well in the area of road construction and maintenance, solid waste management and supply and installation of solar street lights and regulation of business environment.
The governor had earlier on Thursday performed the ground breaking ceremony foundation laying of the first phase of 62 new Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) under the World bank funded Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state .
A total of 93 new schools are expected to be constructed under the project before the end of the project in 2025.
Speaking during the event, Sani said the initiative will address the challenges of out of school children.
He said education is one of the major priorities of his administration, stressing that primary and secondary education are free in Kaduna state.
“As you are aware, Nigeria has the highest number of out of school children in the whole world.
“As I speak, we have about 14m out of school children, Kaduna state have about 500,000.
“We have reached out to all our rural communities so that this projects are situated in communities to give our children to go to school.
“In Kaduna Primary and secondary schools education are free. But beyond that we believe that we must take the schools closer to them”, the governor said.
