The Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area, following massive attacks on communities by gunmen suspected to be fulani herdsmen.
In a statement on Sunday in Jos, Gyang Bere, spokesman to the governor said the decision to impose curfew in the area was taken in consultation with members of the state security council to restore law and order in the area ravage by mass killings. The statement said, movements within the Mangu LGA, has been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.
“Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the
curfew”, the statement said.
The statement said further that, the governor has assured that government is working round the clock to restore peace and security in the state.
Meanwhile the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), accused the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, (MACBAN) for the attacks.
National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Chief Joseph Gwankat made the accusation at a news conference on Saturday in Jos.
He alleged that the fulanis were killing people and taking over their communities and attacking more villages.
According to Gwankat, the attacks started in April shortly after the governorship election.
“This evil act is being perpetrated under Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN)
“Our deserted communities have been taken over by the fulani militia while farms have become grazing land to them”, he said.
He said the killings were an attempt to blackmail the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
“We, therefore, strongly suggest that the federal government should declare MACBAN a terrorist organisation because of the heinous crimes that its members are perpetrating in various parts of Nigeria.
Gwankat said a total of 204 people have been killed in an attack on 53 communities in Mangu LGA.
