Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has called for more security deployment to stop the killings in the state.
In a statement on Sunday, signed by Gyang Bere, his spokesman, Mutfwang said he was saddened by the coordinated attacks, killings and destruction of property by bandits in Plateau communities.
The statement said some of the affected communities include Kak, Ranyam, Nging, Lohala and Buka in Barkin Ladi Local Government area of the state.
The governor, while sympathising with the victims and their families, “condemned in strong terms, the bloody attacks that perished lives of many innocent people and urged the security agencies to diligently execute their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property in order to put a stop to the wanton spilling of blood and destruction of property.”
The statement urged security agencies “to consider the redeployment of more personnel to communities that are under attack to prevent further destruction of lives and properties.”
Mutfwang also urged security personnel “to remain neutral and refrain from meddling into the local politics that is outside their purview.”
The statement reiterated the commitment of the state government to work with security agencies, using multifaceted approaches to secure communities that have been invaded by bandits.
The governor commended the gallantry of some of the security personnel who have been working hard to curb the attacks and urged them to put more efforts to halt the ugly trend.
The governor restated his commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the state.
The statement also called on citizens of the state to shun tribal, religious and political differences and join hands with government in finding lasting solutions to the attacks.
