Chris Piwuna, a professor of medicine and a consultant psychiatrist, has been elected president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Pinwuna, a former dean of student affairs at the University of Jos was declared winner AIT the election which held during the union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo state from May 8 to 12.
He was the immediate past national vice president of ASUU.
He defeated Prof. Adamu Babayo, from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
Piwuna graduated graduated from UNIJOS in 2000 with a degree in Medicine (MBBS).
He obtained his Master’s degree at the University of Malta in 2013.
He is a fellow of West African College of Physicians and a member of the International Psychogeriatric Association.
Piwuna is a consultant psychiatrist at the UNIJOS teaching hospital and a former head of the psychiatry unit.
His work is specialised in the quality of life in older adults, with several articles in peer-reviewed journals.
