The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the Northern Awareness Network (NAN), have commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Adeola Ajayi as the new Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In separate statements issued on Monday in Kaduna, the two groups called on Nigerians to support Ajayi in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
The AYCF in the statement signed by Yerima Shettima, its President General, said Ajayi’s track records and achievements, having served as state director of the DSS in Kogi, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna and Plateau states raises hope of a new approach to national security.
“In the current climate, where security challenges such as terrorism, banditry, and community unrest continue to plague Nigeria, the AYCF lauds Ajayi’s appointment as a timely and strategic move by President Bola Tinubu”, the statement said.
Shettima said, the AYCF “envisions that Ajayi’s leadership style will prioritise a more covert and intelligent approach to intelligence gathering and operational deployment within the DSS.
“This aligns with the AYCF’s call for emphasis on discretion and strategic silence regarding sensitive security matters, a method we believe could significantly enhance the overall effectiveness of the agency”, Shettima said.
The AYCF noted the endemic security challenges facing the North in recent years and called on the new DSS boss to collaborate with other security agencies to restore peace and order in the region.
The statement called on “all Nigerians to support him in fostering a unified fight against insecurity.”
On its part, NAN said it is optimistic that Ajayi’s leadership will usher in a transformative approach to national security and stability in Nigeria.
The group, in the statement signed by Salihu Sulaiman, its chairman, said Ajayi’s track record, especially, his achievements during his tenures as the state director of the DSS in Kogi, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna and Plateau states, stand him out as a man with experience and competence for the position.
The statement said, “Amidst the ongoing security challenges posed by terrorism, banditry, and internal unrest affecting Nigeria, the NAN regards Ajayi’s appointment as a strategic and timely decision by President Tinubu.
“The organization anticipates that Ajayi’s leadership will embody a more covert and intelligence-driven approach, enhancing the operational effectiveness of the DSS.”
Sulaiman said the vision aligns with the NAN’s advocacy for discretion and secrecy in handling security issues, which it believes, is critical in responding to emerging threats.
