Aminu Tambuwal, a senator and ex-governor of Sokoto state, says
no politician with a conscience would join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), given its current policies and the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
Tambuwal stated this in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Kaduna, shortly after a meeting of the North-West zone of the PDP.
While expressing concerns about the defections, he attributed it to the search for “stomach infrastructure.””
Tambuwal said, “People leave parties for certain reasons or for different reasons, but what I have been observing in the past are defections not based on the interest of the people but based on stomach infrastructure.
“If you are talking about defecting in the interest of the people, I believe no one can go to the APC.
“If you are a politician with conscience, with the current policies being driven by the government of the APC and the current economic doldrum that the APC has driven Nigerians into and hardship across the country and the dismal performance of the Tinubu administration, there is nothing attractive outside stomach infrastructure.”
He querried the motivation behind the defections, maintaining that no politician with a conscience would join the APC given its current policies and the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
“So, those based on stomach infrastructure are not worrisome.
“It is for all of us who believe in this country; who believe in the service of the people to continue to come together and work out something that will ensure that by 2027, we ease out this administration that lacks focus, compassion and do not have any direction”
He called on Nigerians of like minds to come together and work towards ensuring that the APC is voted out by 2027.
Meanwhile, in a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the North-West zone of the party resolved to take its rightful position at the national level and provide leadership to move the country forward.
The communique read by Alhaji Bello Gwarzo, the Northwest Zonal Chairman, emphasized the need to swiftly resolve all issues of conflict at the national level as the country looks up to the PDP for leadership.
“We urge all party members to be patient and heed the advice of elders to solve problems and ensure success in the 2027 election,” the communique stated.
On Friday, some members of the PDP, including a former senator, four federal lawmakers, among others in the Southern part of Kaduna State, defected to the APC.
They cited the leadership style of the Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, as one of the reasons for their defection to the APC.
