Nine suspects arrested in connection with violent attacks in Plateau

The Plateau state police command has arrested nine suspects over the recent violent attacks in the state.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday in Jos, the capital of Plateau, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 4, Ebong Eyibio,
said operatives repelled attacks which were targeted at Ntam community and the ASTC company in Mangu LGA.
Eyibio said the police also averted the attacks targeted at places of worship in Panyam district in Mangu LGA.
Eyibio said dangerous weapons, such as machetes, kegs containing petrol, and other items, were recovered from the nine suspects.
He said, “Nine suspects have been arrested. Exhibits recovered from them include dangerous weapons, such as machetes, kegs containing Petrol, and other items,” Eyibio said.
The AIG said, “The area remains highly secured by security forces and striction compliance to the curfew is being complied with
“To prevent further escalation of the incident which is almost snowballing  into an ethno-religious crisis, I have ordered the deployment of additional special intervention personnel to Mangu LGA to be commended by the area commander, Pankshin, and restore normalcy in that area.”
The AIG  added that security operatives and a delegation from Plateau government met leaders of the Muslim and Christian communities in Mangu LGA to deliberate on ways to resolve the crisis.
There have been recurring attacks in communities in Mangu LGA, leading to loss of lives and properties.
Many people have been killed while many houses were  destroyed during  attacks in Mangu LGA.
The  Plateau state government had on Tuesday  imposed  a 24-hour curfew in Mangu LGA.
