Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, says over 115 people have been killed in fresh attacks on communities in Barakin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu, Local Government Areas of the state.
Mutfwang who disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television programme, “Sunrise Daily” on Tuesday, called on the security agencies to fish out the killers and their sponsors and bring them to justice.
The governor warned the sponsors of the carnage to stop the barbaric act, declaring that “enough is enough”.
Over 15 communities in Barakin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu LGAs were attacked in what the governor described as “a planned and coordinated”, onslaught which started on Friday till Christmas Day.
Many of those killed were said to be women and children who were either shot or hacked with deadly weapons.
Mutfwang said, “Just when we had finished preparations for Christmas, unprovoked attacks were unleashed on our communities.
“As I am talking to you, in Mangu LGA, alone, we buried 15 people. As at this morning, in Bokkos, we are counting over 100 corpses. Not to talk of that of Barkin-Ladi”.
Many houses were said to have been set ablaze by the attackers who also looted farm produce and destroyed properties in the process.
The governor said the attacks were “unprecedented and monumental”, noting that though the assailants intended to break the spirit of the people and pull down the two local governments, the spirit of the people on the Plateau remained unfazed.”
Mutfwang decried the response time by security agents, especially the men of the Nigerian Army, saying they could have done better.
The governor also said the attacks were not connected to land disputes between the indigenous people and marauding terrorists.
He warned that the people attacked could defend themselves but it might get to a time that the people might not be able to restrain themselves from defending themselves and their lands against the assailants.
