Despite the 24 hours curfew imposed on Mangu LGA of Plateau state, many people have been reportedly killed while several houses were burnt on Wednesday following violent clashes in Mangu, the council headquarters.
A resident of the town told AmazingTimes</strong in a telephone interview on Wednesday that the 24-hour curfew was ineffective alleging that the security personnel deployed to the area were not neutral.
“There was violent clash today in Mangu town despite the 24-hour curfew. Many people were killed, and houses were burnt including places of worship’, he said.
“The security personnel were not neutral, they were chasing away one side of the divide in an attempt to protect the other side who are a minority, meanwhile the minority group was going about burning house and attacking people’, he said.
“Imagine a soldier inside Armour tank, saying that “since you said Gida, Gida, we will follow you Gida Gida”. Where is the neutrality?”, he asked.
A former lawmaker representing Mangu south, Bala Fwangji, said several houses were burnt and many residents shot.
He said, “What happened today in Mangu is not good at all. We just woke up to hear that some people are burning houses in Mangu and attacking anyone in sight”.
Speaking further, he said, “I cannot tell you how many houses were burnt, or the number of people attacked or killed, but these things happened today. But we thank God the security agents have been deployed and the situation is calm now.”
