No fewer than 15 people have been killed in an attack by a new terrorist group on Mera community in Augie local government area of Kebbi state.
The new group known as “Lakurawas”, was said to have attacked the community at about 2pm on Friday.
Spokesperson of the Kebbi state police command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
Abubakar said “the terrorists attacked the village around 2 pm on Friday”, adding that some cows were also rustled during the incident.
He said to the Kebbi state police commissioner, Bello Sanni, has mobilised a team of officers to the area to apprehend the criminals.
Abubakar said “Investigations are still ongoing and the findings will be made public”.
The 15 victims were buried on Saturday in a funeral attended by several prominent personalities, including Abubakar Tafida, the deputy governor of Kebbi state; Samaila Mera, the Emir of Argungu; and the state’s police commissioner.
The Lakurawas group is believed to operate in multiple regions of northern Nigeria, with its activities reportedly extending into several LGAs in Sokoto state.
