Sunday Katung, the senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has denied rumours of his  defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speculations were rife that Katung had  concluded plans to decemp to the ruling party following defection of many PDP members in his Senatorial zone to the APC.
However, a statement issued by his media office and made available to journalists on Thursday in Kaduna said the senator remains a committed member of the PDP.
“The attention of the media office of Distinguished Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, the Senator representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, has been drawn to a rumours on social media regarding a purported defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)”, the statement  reads.
“We wish to state unequivocally and for the record that, as of today, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung is a committed member of the  PDP.
“He was elected on the platform of the PDP and remains dedicated to upholding the mandate given to him by the good people of Kaduna South Senatorial District.”
The statement noted that the political landscape is often dynamic, pointing out that “any decision of such magnitude would be communicated officially and transparently by the Senator himself, not through clandestine speculation.”
The statement added that, “The current rumours are a needless distraction from the Senator’s primary focus, which is effective representation, legislative excellence, and attracting developmental projects to Kaduna South Senatorial District”
It  urged  the constituents and the general public to disregard such  unfounded speculations.
