The management of Kaduna State University (KASU) has dismissed the allegation that the institution was pursuing Islamisation agenda in the appointments of principal officers. In March, 2023, Samira Balarabe and Hauwau Dalhat were appointed as first female registrar and bursar respectively. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university also recently appointed deputy vice-chancellors.
According to NAN, the appointments, however, raised eyebrows in some quarters, as some alleged marginalisation of Christians.
Addressing the concerns on Friday, Balarabe, the institution’s registrar, said the appointments were based on merit.
She said the university’s law empowered its governing council, led by the pro-chancellor and chairman, to appoint principal officers which include the registrar, bursar, and librarian.
She added that the appointments were approved by the Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, a visitor to the university, after undergoing rigorous process of screening and interview.
The registrar said the newly appointed deputy vice-chancellors “went through election process which was conducted in free and fair manner during the senate meeting which took place on July 6″.
“The management is focused on its goal to transform the university into a world-class institution with the underlying philosophy of excellence in teaching, research, community service and revenue generation,” NAN quoted her as saying .
“The institution has been at the forefront of innovation and excellence, constantly striving to provide state-of-the-art facilities and programmes that enhance the academic and research experiences of our students and faculty.
“KASU remains focused on its mission to become a world-class institution that nurtures talent, drives innovation and positively impacts society.”
