The Kaduna state government is to contruct 10,000 affordable housing units in the next four years.
Mallam Rabiu Yunusa, permanent secretary, Kaduna state ministry of housing and urban development, disclosed this on Monday at a meeting of the National Council Lands, Housing and Urban Development which held in Kaduna.
Yunusa said Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna state was working on a programme to contruct the houses across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
He added that the state had already attracted a Qatari charity organisation to provide 500 housing units for vulnerable people.
Yunusa noted that the housing deficit in Nigeria is so high, stressing that the Kaduna state government is determined to address the situation.
“We have so much housing deficits not only in Kaduna state. I don’t think in the last four years there is any state that built mass houses.
“Governor Uba is going to built 10,000 mass housing in the next four years”, he said.
Speaking further, Yunusa said, “the challenges in the housing sector is not only peculiar to Kaduna state, it is something affects every state even the federal government.
“But luckily in Kaduna, the 7- point agenda of the governor include the closing of the gaps in the housing sector.
“He is so passionate about addressing the challenges and he has directed us to come up with modalities. We have many things in the pipelines towards achieving set goals. “
He said the meeting was very important because it will enable the states to synergise with the federal ministry of housing in addressing the challenges.
“We are going to close the gap in the housing sector in Kaduna state by 60 or 70 per cent in the next four years.
“If you are following the activities of the governor, you will know that he is concerned about the less privileged in the society and is determined to improve on their well being”, Yunusa said.
