Kaduna PDP holds congress, elect officials, despite court order

Edward Masha, a former Commissioner for Water Resources in Kaduna state, has emerged as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Masha was elected on Saturday during the state congress of the party, which held at the International Trade Fair along Zaria road, Kaduna.
He polled 2,123 votes to defeat his opponent, Danjuma Sarki, who polled 258 votes.
Also, Saidu Adamu, a former commissioner for Information in the state, was elected unopposed as the secretary while Maria Dogo, a former member of the Kaduna state House of Assembly, emerged as the state spokesperson of the party.
The position of Woman Leader was clinched by Godiya Lolo who defeat her opponent, Angel Amadu.
The result of the election which lasted till Sunday morning, was announced by Tanko B. the state returning officer.
He said a total of 2,268 delegates participated in the election.
The election was monitored by monitored by INEC officials and National Officers of the PDP amid tight security.
In his acceptance speech, the new party chairman promised inclusive leadership and an open door policy.
He promised to reach out to party members for reconciliation and create an atmosphere that everybody would be carried along.
Also in his remarks, Felix Hyat, outgoing chairman of the party urged members to give the new leadership maximum support to return the PDP in the state to its former glory.
The election was held despite the order by an Abuja Federal High Court restraining the PDP and INEC from holding the congress and conducting elections, pending the the determination of a suit file by five aggrieved members of the party.
Counsels to the aggrieved party members, A. Mahmud, SAN, had in a letter dated September 18, 2024 and addressed to the INEC Chairman, asked the commission  to restrain itself “from participating and monitoring the state congress in Kaduna, scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 21, 2024.”
Hyat, had while reacting to reports on the court order, said “rumours on the postponement of the congress was false.”
