The Kaduna state commissioner of business innovation and technology, Patience Fakai, has said that the state is building three world-class skills cities.
Fakai spoke on Saturday at the second edition of the Kaduna career fair, organised in collaboration with Jobberman and Mastercard Foundation.
She said the initiative is part of the efforts by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, to make the state the skills hub of the nation and address youth unemployment.
The commissioner said the state government is constructing three world-class vocational and technology skills acquisition cities in each of the three senatorial zones.
Fakai also pointed out that tackling youth unemployment requires a holistic and collaborative approach.
She said, “It is imperative to think critically on developing integrated youth employment strategies that address job creation and helping youth transition into reputable and decent work roles.
“The career fair reflects a powerful partnership between government, the private sector, and educational institutions aimed at empowering our youth and supporting our economic ambitions.
“The maiden edition of the career fair which held on the 23rd of November, 2023, recorded a significant milestone, with a total of 1,496 unemployed youth with 71 representatives of employers of labour in attendance and over 300 job placements have been secured to date and still counting.”
According to her, employers drive economic growth by investing in talent, empowering both their hires and the broader community.
“Remember that each interaction here is a step toward realizing your potential and securing your future. Your careers do not only serve your personal growth but are integral to the progress of our beloved state,” she added.
Fakai encouraged job seekers to use the fair to showcase their skills, creativity, passion, and to engage, learn, and grow.
The commissioner lauded Jobberman for its pivotal role in connecting thousands of job seekers with potential careers, ultimately bridging Nigeria’s employment gap.
