The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Friday, visited Jos, Plateau state capital, over the recent killings by bandits in some communities in the state.
Over 160 people were killed in 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, Mangu LGAs of the state in attacks that started on Christmas Eve.
Over 200 houses were destroyed by the bandits during the attacks, leaving many residents displaced.
The IGP met with the Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang and other stakeholders during the visit.
The IGP also ordered the deployment of tactical teams and equipment to the state.
He directed that the assistant inspector-general of police in zone 4 should relocate to the state with immediate effect.
Mutfwang thanked the governor for the visit and assured of collaboration with the police to tackle the security challenges in Plateau.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to collaborating closely with security agencies to guarantee the safety of the people of Plateau and to protect the state’s boundaries,” the governor said.
