Gunmen kill three miners in Plateau

Three miners have been reportedly shot to dead at a mining site around Tanjol in Jol community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau states.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident on Sunday, adding that two people also sustained injuries.
He said the incident occurred at about 11am on Sunday.
According to him, other miners and farmers in the area have fled the area the community.
The BYM spokesman, who described the attack as one of too many, called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts towards the safety of lives and property in rural communities.
He said despite the deployment of mobile police officers in the area, killings have continued unabated.
Spokesman of the Plateau state police command, Alfred Alabo did not respond to telephone calls to his line, but a top police officer confirmed the attack.
About 300 people were to have been killed in communities in Mangu, Barikin Ladi and Riyom LGAs of the state.
