Yusuf Gagdi, a federal lawmaker, representing Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam federal constituency of Plateau state, has declared that the quest to ensure that Nentawe Yilwada becomes governor of Plateau state, will be pursued with the last drop of blood.
Gagdi made the declaration on Saturday in Pankshin at the annual “Pusdung,” a cultural festival of the Ngas ethnic nationality in Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas of the state.
The lawmaker who was captured in a video that went viral on social media, swore by his “father’s grave”, that he was more interested in Yilwatda becoming governor than his position as a lawmaker.
Yilwatda was the governoship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau state in the 2023 election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), had declared Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as winner of the election having scored 525,299 votes as against Yilwatda’s 481,370 votes.
Dissatisfied with th outcome of the election, Yilwatda and his party, had challenged Mutfwang’s victory at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the state.
A three-member panel of judges led by Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi in a judgment, had dismissed the petition on the grounds that it lacked merit and affirmed the election of Mutfwang.
Yilwatda and his party had rejected the judgment and were believed to have gone on appeal.
However, speaking during the cultural festival, Gagdi swore that the “Nentawe project would be pursued with the last drop of our blood until God confirms him governor”.
He said, “God knows my heart. I have told you times without numbers, … take back your PKK ( Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam federal constituency) and give me Nentawe as governor.
“I pity most of you that think that my position is more important to me than Nentawe as the governor.
“Nentawe becoming the governor, I swear with the grave of my father, is more important to me than becoming a member of the House of Representatives.
“The National President of Ngas Development Assassination (NDA), I have a covenant with God and the Ngas people.
“This Nentwawe you see, and Nentawe project, walahi (I swear) we will pursue it with the last drop of our blood, until ︅by the special grace of God, God confirms Nentawe as the governor of Plateau state.
“Mr. President (of NDA), as a representatives of Ngas people, I have no restrictions in communicating and talking to the people that mandated me to represent them at any forum and so thank you for giving me the platform to see my people and to talk to my own people whom I am well please with, whom I am proud of.
“If you listen to me on the floor of the house, I described PKK as a mini American democracy.
In the four angles of Nigeria, tell me where people like you, that I came from a minority tribe and I came from the minority…”
