Duchess Lounge, a popular hub for relaxation and entertainment in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, has been gutted by fire.
Property worth millions of naira was destroyed in the inferno.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. However, eyewitnesses said a sudden power surge may have sparked the fire.
The fire was said to have completely destroyed the first floor of the lounge, reducing furniture, sound systems, and other valuables to ashes.
Owner of the lounge and a former speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Prof. Joseph Kunini expressed shock over the incident.
“It is a sad development and a huge loss, but we thank God no life was lost.
“We had just completed a comprehensive renovation of the lounge, including new furniture, in preparation for our third anniversary on December 30,” he said.
The incident shocked many patrons and residents of Jalingo.
