Emir of Zuru dies at 81

The Emir of Zuru, Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami, has passed on.
Sami died in a London hospital following a brief illness. He was aged 81.
The Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, confirmed the monarch’s death in a statement on Sunday.
The Kebbi state government expressed deep sorrow over the Emir’s death and extended sympathies to his immediate family and the people of Zuru.
“The government prays to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus”, the statement said.
Late monarch joined the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962 and was commissioned on July 25, 1963.
He held top positions in the Nigerian Army. He was the military governor of Bauchi state from January 1984 to August 1985 during the military regime of the late Muhammadu Buhari.
He was turbaned as the emir in 1995.
