Bayelsa state governor, Duoye Diri, has been re-elected in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Diri, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the poll having scored 175, 196 votes, to defeat his close challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 110, 108 votes.
Results of the election were announced on Monday in Yenagoa, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Prof. Farouk Adamu
The off-cycle governorship election in Bayelsa was one of the three conducted by INEC on Saturday — the others were in Kogi and Imo states.
According to the results, Diri won in six of the LGAs in the state while Sylva won in two.
However, the APC agent at the collation centre refused to sign the result sheet alleged electoral malpractices during the poll.
