Cote d’Ivoire win nations cup

Cote d’Ivoire, the host country for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), on Sunday night, won the 34th edition of the continental competition.
The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 at the Olympic stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan,
to pick the trophy for the 34th edition of the competition.
The Super Eagles had won the tournament three times and were gunning for a fourth winning, while the Elephants had won the trophy two times with their latest victory being the third winning.
Nigeria won the trophy in 1980, 1994, and 2013, while Cote d’Ivoire won  in 1992 and 2015.
Nigeria scored the first goal of the match in the 38th minute through William Troost-Ekong.
However,  Cote d’Ivoire equalised in the 62nd minute through Franck Kessie.
Cote d’Ivoire’s second goal came in the 81st minute of the game by Simon Adingra.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was at the Olympic stadium, Ebimpe, to cheer the Eagles.
