Bandits displace 289,375 people in Kaduna communities

A total of 289,375 people have been displaced by bandits in 551 communities across 12 Local Government Areas of Kaduna state.
The 12 LGAs are said to be worst affected by activities of bandits.
Usman Mazadu, Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), disclosed this on Wednesday at the flag-off of distribution of palliatives at Maraban Kajuru, Kajuru LGA of the state.
Mazadu said said the figures are not just numbers, but statistics “that represent lives, dreams, and the enduring spirit of our people.”
Giving a breakdown of the of the affected areas, he said, “in Chikun, we have 134 affected communities and 26,345 displaced individuals.
“In Birnin Gwari, 84 communities are affected with 70,893 displaced people and in numerous other communities across 12 other local governments.”
Mazadu said, “we are here to initiate a significant undertaking, the flag-off of the distribution of relief materials to our brothers and sisters who have been displaced by the unfortunate events that have befallen some communities in our dear state.
He said the distribution of the palliatives is not just an act of aid, but a reaffirmation of the seven point agenda of Governor Uba Sani, code name, “SUSTAIN”.
Mazadu said, “This distribution of palliative is not just an act of aid; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to the SUSTAIN agenda of our visionary leader, the governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Uba Sani, which is a comprehensive blueprint for the safety, security, and prosperity of our people.
“Ladies and gentlemen, at this juncture, let us take a moment to reflect on the numbers that have brought us to these crossroads: – 551 affected communities, 289,375 displaced persons are recorded across 12 Local Government Areas. Therefore the need for support is critical.
“Our empathetic governor has answered the call and has factored this very important population into his N11.4billion palliative programme”.
He added that the palliatives will be extended to all the affected communities in the 12 LGAs.
Flagging-off the distribution, Hadiza Balarabe, the deputy governor of the state who was who represented by James Kanyip, her Chief of Staff, assured that the administration of Sani will not rest until banditry is eradicated.
She said the governor understands the pains and sufferings that have been caused by these unfortunate events of insecurity, and he is committed to providing aid, succour and support to those affected.
The deputy governor said, “Under the leadership of Governor Sani, the Kaduna state government is dedicated to addressing the needs of our citizens and bringing an end to the current security situation.
“The consignment of palliatives to be distributed here comprised two trucks of high-quality, hygienically processed maize flour and rice.
“To all residents of our state, be rest assured that the state government is determined to create a safe and prosperous environment for all and will not rest until the threat of banditry is eradicated”.
