The appeal court in Abuja has nullified the verdict of the Nasarawa state governorship election petition tribunal, which sacked Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, the court affirmed the election of Sule as governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Sule as winner of the March 18 election with 347,209 votes while David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled second with 283,016 votes. However, the PDP candidate had challenged Sule’s victory at the election petition tribunal, citing alleged irregularities.
The tribunal had in its judgement declared October 2, nullified Sule’s victory and declared Ombugadu as winner of the poll.
Not satisfied with the judgment of the tribunal, Sule approached the appellate court to set aside the decision of the tribunal.
