Amos Magaji, a member of the house of representatives, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Magaji represents Zangon Kataf/Jaba federal constituency of Kaduna state.
The speaker of the house, Tajudeen Abbas, announced Magaji’s defection in a letter read on the floor of house on Tuesday.
Magaji explained that his defection was because of the raging unresolved crisis in the PDP.
However, the minority leader of the house, Kingsley Chinda, protested the defection, saying there was no crisis in the PDP.
Chinda asked the speaker to declare Magaji’s seat vacant in line with section 68 of the 1999 constitution which outlines the conditions under which a member can lose their seat.
The speaker however, asked Chinda to write him officially to make his request.
It was gathered that more PDP chieftains in Zangon Kataf LGA, including Sam Kambai, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, are set to dumped the PDP for the APC on Saturday barring any change in plans.
