Welcome to this edition of Security Update on @ndeya live, hosted by Rimamnde Shawulu. This week’s report covers alarming security incidents in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond—from deadly terrorist attacks to persistent communal clashes and humanitarian crises.

In Nigeria, banditry and terrorism continue to spread fear. In Zamfara State, over 52 people were abducted in separate attacks, including 40 worshippers kidnapped during dawn prayers at a mosque in Gidan Thu Bay village.

In another strike, 22 villagers were taken from Godav community, as gunmen fired sporadically and forced residents into the forest. The Zamfara Police Command confirmed these incidents. The Nigerian military reported the deaths of five soldiers ambushed in Zamfara State while escorting traders. Though troops neutralized several terrorists, casualties among soldiers remain high.

In Niger State, bandits opened fire on vehicles along the Tegina–Kontagora road, leaving passengers critically injured. Kaduna State also witnessed bloodshed, with 8 people killed and 20 wounded in an attack on Waikiki village in Kachia LGA. The northeast continues to suffer from Boko Haram insurgency.

In Bama LGA, Borno State, 63 people—including five soldiers—were massacred during a night raid on Rajamal community. Homes, shops, and vehicles were burned, and the governor lamented the shortage of manpower in the armed forces. Airstrikes reportedly retaliated, killing dozens of insurgents. Beyond Nigeria, Africa’s security outlook remains grim:

• In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) massacred between 60–71 people at a funeral in Toyo, while other attacks left dozens dead in Beni. Meanwhile, M23 rebels continue their offensive in North and South Kivu, with 470 civilians killed since July.

• A tragic boat disaster in DRC claimed at least 193 lives, highlighting recurring infrastructure failures.

• An Ebola outbreak in DRC’s multiple health zones has already killed 21 people—the 16th outbreak of its kind in the region.

• In Niger Republic, terrorism deaths have nearly doubled this year, reflecting the deepening crisis across the Sahel. Other developments include an attack on Chinese expatriate workers in Edo State, Nigeria, where 8 security officials were killed; and another communal clash in Plateau State, where Fulani militias attacked a Christian community, killing 6.
