Four people, including an army personnel have been reportedly killed in separate attacks on communities in Miango Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau state.
According to Stefanus Foundation, a non- governmental organisation (NGO) concerned with security issues, one of the attacks occurred on June 23, 2024, when suspected fulani terrorists ambushed three Irigwe natives, riding on their motorbike along Nkiedonwro road, killing one person while two others escaped with injuries.
The NGO said, in another attack, the terrorists reportedly ambushed two army personnel, stationed at the Nigerian Army shooting range along Miango road, leading to the dead of one of the soldiers.
The army personnel were said to be returning from Jebbu Miango.
“Information gathered stated that the two personnel were taken to the military hospital in the nearby barracks.
“However, Stefanos gathered that one of the army personnel died while receiving treatment”, the NGO said in a statement shared on its Facebook page.
The Foundation also said two people were killed in a similar attack on Kpara community also in Miango Chiefdom by suspected Fulani terrorists.
The NGO expressed concern over renewed spade of attacks in Miango Chiefdom, noting that, “The boldness of the terrorists to launch another attack so soon and even on the army leave so much to be desired”.
The statement recalled that in 2017, Fulani militants attacked Nkiedonwro community and killed 30 residents who ran to hide in a nearby school, after the criminals had set churches ablaze
The NGO called on both the federal and state governments as well as security agencies to, “as a matter of urgency, investigate and halt the renewed attacks in Miango Chiefdom before the situation gets worst.
“We pray God’s peace and comfort on the families of the departed and call on all individuals to continue to be vigilant in their communities”, the NGO added.
