Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, is dead.
He was said to have died on Saturday, at the age of 62.
The veteran actor took ill in October 2023 and requested financial assistance for medical treatment.
A month after, his family confirmed that one of his legs had been amputated to keep him alive.
The amputation became necessary because of an infection of the arteries at the ankle that was not detected early enough.
Okafor’s death was announced on Instagram by his former manager Emeka Chochoo.
Meanwhile many people have expressed shock over Okafor’s death, describing him as a talented actor that will be greatly missed.
In his reaction to the actor’s death, Shehu Sani a former senator who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district, said he was saddened over news of the death of Okafor.
Commenting on his X handle, Sani wrote: “The news of the passing away of the comic actor Mr. Ibu is sad and unfortunate.
“A distinguished artist who made us laugh, smile and lightened up our lives with his unique talent and humorous creativity.
“For decades, he has been a delightful spice in our homes and hearts.
“A great loss to our country and the entertainment industry. May his soul rest in peace.”
