Insecurity:  FG, governors opt for creation of state police

The minister of information, Mohammed Idris, has hinted that the federal government may adopt state police to  curb the rising insecurity in the country.
The minister stated this on Thursday at a press conference after a  meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja,
The minister who addressed the  press conference alongside governors of Plateau, Kaduna and Delta states.  governor;  said the President and governors have agreed on working out modalities for the concept.
Idris said a series of meetings would take place to determine the workability of a decentralised police force.
He added  that  a committee has been set up to synthesise all delibrations at the meeting.
The minister said further that a bill would be sent that to the National Assembly for necessary constitutional amendment after discussions are held on the issue.
On food crisis, the minister disclosed that the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director General of State Services (DSS) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) have been directed to collaborate with state governors in addressing hoarding concerns, particularly in the wake of soaring commodity prices.
