Suspected phone robbers kill corp member in Kaduna

A serving corp member, Chalya Silas, has been killed by phone robbers in Kaduna.
It was gathered that Silas, from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau state and a graduate of Special Education, from the University of Jos, was stabbed to death on Wednesday at about 7pm in the Barnawa area of Kaduna metropolis.
She was said to be jogging when three people riding on a bike stopped to snatch her phone but resisted them.
One of them stabbed her with a sharp knife and they made away with the phone.
An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna state confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, but did not give details.
Also confirming the incident, Mansir Hassan, spokesperson of the Kaduna state Police Command, said the incident happened at about 6:45pm on Wednesday.
“The incident happened at about 6:45am on Wednesday. She was on morning jogging, the morning execise that people do”, Hassan in a telephone interview.
According to him, the deceased was wearing earpiece on both ears as she was jogging.
“Three criminals riding on bike stopped her and wanted to snatch her phone. She resisted them and one of them stabbed her with a sharp knife.
“Immediately, the Police Division in Barnawa received the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), took her to Hermony Hospital in Barnawa where doctors confirmed her dead”, the police spokesperson said.
He said the Kaduna state police commissioner had directed the DPO in Barnawa and other DPOs in that area as well as the Area Commander in charge, to take adequate steps to arrest the culprits, adding that, “very soon the culprits would be arested”.
