Mukhtar Sirajo, president and chairman of the governorship council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR),has called on the present administration to implement some of the recommendations contained in the report of the institute’s Citizens Summit which held last year.
Sirajo made the call in a message marking the World 2023 PR Day celebrations.
He said the implementation of the report, which would be presented on Tuesday, will bring about the rebirth of a new Nigeria. The NIPR had, on August 2022, organised the “Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security.”
The summit provided an opportunity for Nigerians to discuss various issues bedeviling the country with the aim of rebuilding trust.
“My dear comrades in the Public Relations Profession, it is my honor to convey to you this message on the occasion of the world PR Day, a day set aside to celebrate both the Public Relations practice and practitioners the world over”, the message reads.
“On this auspicious occasion, I urge us all to continue to live and breathe public relations by analyzing trends and influencing policies positively.”
Sirajo said, the NIPR has continued to preach about truth and transparency and the ideals of the World PR Day, through several mechanisms and platforms.
According to him, “one of the most important of these, was “the Citizens Summit For National Integration, Peace and Security, which held last August where citizens of Nigeria reopened conversation with the aim of rebuilding trust.”
He said, “The public presentation of the report of the Citizens Summit is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 18, 2023” stressing that “if the recommendations therein, are implemented it will lead to the path to national rebirth and recovery.
He added that the implementation of the recommendations will also “promote the practice of non-violent communication and provide frameworks, mechanisms and strategies for citizens’ re-engagement through behavioral re-orientation of citizens, as well as better and more purposeful and responsive governance structure.
“Permit me to seize the opportunity to call on the Government of the Day to take deliberate steps to implement some of the recommendations contained in the Citizens Summit Report as we journey on the rebirth of a new Nigeria devoid of ethnic, religious and regional bigotry so that our diversity as a nation can once again become our strength and unifying force.”
Sirajo urged members of the NIPR to remain good ambassadors of the profession as they prepare for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections of the institute coming up soon.
