The deputy governor of Edo state, Mr. Philip Shaibu, has called on wealthy and privileged individuals to assist the needy and less-privileged members of society.
Shaibu made the call on Thursday in Benin City when a delegation of the Edo state chapter of the Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners (ACMP) paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House. The visit was part of preparations for association’s national conference holding in Benin City.
The deputy governor commended the ACMP
for the selfless services it has been rendering to the Edo people.
He said, “It is quite commendable that you have embarked on free medical outreach as part of your programmes here in Benin.
“Some of us who are privileged will keep doing our best to support in the best way we can.
“I keep telling people that when you have clothes that you have not worn for the last six months, you don’t need to keep them; give them out to those in need.
“It time to share that which you have with the less privileged”.
Shaibu said the state government will explore ways of collaboration with ACMP to boost the health sector in the state.
He appealed to individuals “who are privileged by God’s blessings” to assist the poor in the society.
Speaking earlier, president of the Edo state chapter of ACMP, Dr. Fidelis Eki-Udoko, said the association embarked on free medical outreach as part of its activities conference taking place in Benin city.
“We are hosting the national conference and it begins today (Thursday) and will end on Saturday”, he said.
Eki-Udoko said the association was ready to collaborate with the Edo state government to address the challenges in the healthcare sector.
He however appealed to the state government to subsidise medical care at the Catholic Medical Centre at Saint Paul Catholic Church, Benin city.
