IHRC will continue to promote fight against human right abuses, says Ma’aji

The ambassador at- large, African Region, International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), Dr. Malami Ma’aji, has called on African leaders to respect rule of law human rights.
In a statement on Saturday in Kaduna, Ma’aji said the commission will continue to provide legal and moral support to fight against human rights abuses in Africa.
He added that the commission is determined to ensure peace and stability in the African sub region.
According to Ma’aji, “The main objectives of International Human Rights Commission are to serve humanity irrespective of differences in religion, region and tribe, as well as fight against violation of human rights, bloodshed and terrorism in Africa and the world”.
The statement said the commission has been creating awareness among
governments, the legislature and diplomats to ensure people’s rights are respected and protected.
Ma’aji said, he visited some African countries as part of his responsibilities to ensure that the rule of law and human rights were being respected.
Commenting on the preparations for May 29 swearing-in of the President and governors, Ma’aji called on all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful transition of power.
He said the “Authorities must ensure that security agencies operate strictly to the International Human Rights principles and respect rule of law during and after the transition.”
The statement commended the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, for ensuring a successful and peaceful transition as well as peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
