The ward head of Shuwaka, Kyaram District of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau state Mallam Hudu Barau, has been killed by bandits.
His lifeless body was said to have been found in the bush, six days after he was abducted.
The Kanam Development Association disclosed this in a statement in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The statement was signed by Garba Aliyu and Shehu Kanam, chairman and secretary of the association, respectively.
According to the statement, Barau’s body was recovered in the bush, six days after he was kidnapped by bandits.
“We are consumed by grief and outrage as we received the tragic news of the death of one of our community leaders.
“We are still grappling with the shock and pain of this senseless killing and the continued bandit attacks across the communities in the Garga area”, the statement said.
The association described the murder as a devastating loss to the people of Kanam and a reminder of the worsening security crisis in rural parts of Plateau State.
The association lamented that the area has witnessed repeated attacks and abductions in recent months, with little or no visible security intervention.
The group called on the federal government, security agencies, and the Plateau state government to take urgent and decisive action to curb the rising wave of insecurity across Kanam LGA.
