Southern Kaduna People in Diaspora – Europe (SOKAPDAE) have lauded President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna state.
The group also commended the Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, Sunday Katung – the senator representing Kaduna South senatorial zone, and Danjuma La’ah a former senator who represented the area, for their roles in ensuring the establishment of the institution.
In a statement on Thursday signed by Mr. Casimir Biriyok and Dr. Janet Nale, President and Secretary of SOKAPDAE, respectively, the group said it was over joyed by the establishment of the university.
“As an organisation committed to the advancement of our people, we are overjoyed by this development and recognise the far-reaching impact that such an institution will have on education, economic growth, and social progress in our region”, the statement reads.
“For many years, Southern Kaduna has been marginalised in the allocation of federal institutions, despite its immense potentials and contributions to national development.
“The establishment of this university is a long-awaited victory and a clear indication that our perseverance and advocacy for inclusion have yielded results.”
According to the group, “Lack of federal educational institutions in Southern Kaduna has historically placed significant barriers to higher education for our youth.
“Many have had to travel long distances or face financial hardships to access quality tertiary education.”
The statement noted that with the establishment of the university in Kachia, “we believe that this challenge will be significantly alleviated, allowing more students to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society
“We, therefore, celebrate this moment as a victory for justice, fairness, and equity in the distribution of educational resources.”
The group praised President Tinubu for approving the establishment of the institution, noting that he has demonstrated “a strong commitment to education, regional development, and national progress.”
It added that, “By granting this university to Southern Kaduna, the President has not only recognised the need for equitable educational opportunities but has also given the people of the region a renewed sense of belonging and hope.
“This university will serve as a beacon of knowledge, skill development, and technological innovation, contributing significantly to the advancement of both Kaduna State and Nigeria.
“We encourage President Tinubu to continue his commitment to educational reforms and to ensure that resources and investments in infrastructure, faculty, and student welfare are adequately provided to make this institution one of the best in the country.”
The statement called on the federal and the Kaduna state governments, as well as relevant authorities, to ensure adequate funding, provision of infrastructure, and resources for the university to operate effectively.
