SOKAPU flags-off distribution of foodstuffs purchased with Nwike’s N200m donation

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), has flagged off the distribution of foodstuffs purchased with its share of N200 million donation by Governor Nyesom Nwike of Rivers state to displaced victims of terrorists attacks in Kaduna.
Speaking at the event on Friday in Kaduna, Jonathan Asake, president of SOKAPU.
appealed to the federal government to create the Southern Kaduna Development Commission (SKDC) to address the humanitarian crisis caused by terrorists attacks in Southern Kaduna.
Asake said the establishment of the commission will address the plight of thousands of victims of terrorists attacks in Southern Kaduna.
He said over 148 communities have been displaced by terrorists in the area in the last three years.
According to the SOKAPU President, the relief materials were purchased with Southern Kaduna share of the N200 million donated by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Nwike to assist Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
Nwike had donated N200 million to victims of terrorists attacks in the state, through the Kaduna chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during his visit to solicit support for his presidential ambition.
Asake said the donation was shared between Northern and Southern parts of Kaduna state to cater for the various IDP camps across the two zones.
He commended Nwike for his kind gesture, noting that
of all the presidential aspirants that visited Kaduna, “only governor Wike, from far away Rivers State that remember the plight of IDPs in Kaduna State”.
Asake said, “In Southern Kaduna, 148 communities have been displaced and no fewer than 200,000 persons displaced.
“Some of them in IDPs camps and many others squatting with their relations.
“This intervention will also get to the families of who have helped the displaced persons one way or the other.
“On this note we want to commend governor Nyesom Wike for his magnanimity. We pray to God to guide and protect him…”
He called on all corporate bodies, public spirited individuals and international bodies to come to the aid of the displaced persons in Kaduna, “especially in Southern Kaduna where there are serious humanitarian crisis.”
“We therefore call on both the Federal and State governments to intervene by creating Southern Kaduna Development Commission to help in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the area”, he said.
The foodstuffs include 180 bags of rice, 100 bags of beans, 80 bags of Garri, 200 packs of pampers, 200 cartons of Indomie nuddles and 100 tins of vegetable oil.
