The Plateau state government has vowed that it will continue to enforce all town planning laws and regulations to ensure public safety and orderliness across towns and cities in the state.
The state governor, Simon Lalong, stated this when the President of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Olutoye Ayinde, paid him a courtesy call on Wednesday at the government house, Jos.
In a statement issued after the visit by the governor,s spokesman, Makut Macham, Lalong said his administration places so much emphasis on planning in development of infrastructure in the state.
He said his administration was determined to continue the implementation of town planning regulations that will improve the living condition of citizens in cities and towns across the state.
According to him, this has been enshrined in developing new infrastructure and upgrading existing ones, particularly in major towns and cities in the state.
The governor frowned at the level of abuse of town planning regulations vowing that “government will continue to enforce all town planning policies and regulations to ensure that public safety, orderliness and aesthetics are achieved for the good of the people.”
The governor said further that Plateau is naturally endowed with good weather and aesthetics that cannot be enjoyed in a chaotic situation where people build indiscriminately and without adherence to laid down regulations.
According to him, the government was set to flag off the construction of a new interchange road at the British America Junction in Jos, as part of its urban renewal and plan to deal with high traffic.
He said already the enumeration houses in Jos city had commenced with a view to
street naming and house numbering.
The governor solicited for the support and collaboration of the NITP in the actualisation of development plans in the state.
